UCP Fort McMurray Constituency Board backs Kenney's lockdowns, compares actions to Winston Churchill

At a March 19 virtual meeting in which about 34 constituency presidents called in, one President talked about recent poor poll results for Premier Kenney, believing somebody new had to lead the party. Rene Wells, President of the UCP Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche Constituency Association, took the opposite position, reiterating his support in Kenney's leadership at the meeting.

On April 29, a virtual meeting of the Fort McMurray – Lac La Biche Constituency Association passed a motion in support of Kenney that was carried unanimously. The notion reads: “Recognizing the difficult decisions that have been made over the past year and must continue be made in the months ahead during this prolonged public health emergency, that the Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche UCP Constituency Association send a letter to Premier Kenney, his Cabinet, and the Provincial Board of the United Conservative Party, expressing their firm support of the Premier’s leadership in these challenging times.”

Soon after, on May 2nd, Rene Wells issued a letter to Premier Kenney, comparing attempts to undermine him to the War Cabinet Crisis that plagued British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during the Second World War.
