PS5 Becomes Best-Selling Console Through Five Months

According to analysts, the Sony PS5 has officially become the fastest-selling console in US history. The new console has topped the charts in terms of both units sold and “dollar sales” since its release last year.

Sony believes that as of Q1 2022, the company will be able to sell almost 13 million units of the PS5, exceeding the sales of the PS4 in the second year of its release. Sony also leads competitors in accessories sales, with the PS5 DualSense controller being the leading accessory in dollar sales for March and the first quarter of 2021. Compared to last year at the same point, hardware sales are up by nearly 50%.

Supporting the PS5's impressive sales record is a steady stream of games set to release over the next few months. This will include exclusives like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. According to Gamestop, the one area in which the PS5 is slightly faltering is sports, with games like MLB The Show 21 releasing on Xbox and will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. However, the game will later come to PS5, supporting cross-play and permitting PlayStation and Xbox fans to play it together.
