Polls Find Alberta Far More Popular Spot to Live Than Quebec
Recently, Maru Public Opinion with Calgary-based Janet Brown Opinion Research issued a poll titled Brand Alberta that measured what Canadians thought about the province of Alberta. The results were surprising: it revealed that half of Canadians would find Alberta to be a place where they would feel comfortable living . This put it roughly on par with Ontario. British Columbia is the province most Canadians would be open to living in at 65%, whereas Quebec trails last with only 24% comfortable living there.
The exact question used was:
Please indicate if you agree or disagree with the following statements: [insert province] is a place where I would feel comfortable living [exclude residents of province/region from answering]: [Choose one]: strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, strongly disagree.
The final results were determined by combining the strongly agree/somewhat agree (agree) and then doing the same with the somewhat disagree/strongly disagree (disagree) choices (all of the detailed tables are openly published for anyone to freely access and peruse).
The rankings are as followed:
• British Columbia (65%) — Of those who chose British Columbia as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Alberta (73 per cent), followed by those living in Ontario (67 per cent), Quebec (64 per cent), Manitoba (63 per cent), Saskatchewan (59 per cent), and Atlantic Canada (53 per cent).
• Atlantic Canada (63%) — Of those who chose Atlantic Canada as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Ontario (69 per cent), followed by those living in Quebec (60 per cent), Manitoba (59 per cent), British Columbia (58 per cent), Saskatchewan (57 per cent), and Alberta (54 per cent).
• Alberta (49%) — Of those who chose Alberta as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Saskatchewan (72 per cent), followed by those living in Manitoba (52 per cent), Ontario (52 per cent), British Columbia (46 per cent), Quebec (44 per cent), and Atlantic Canada (37 per cent).
• Ontario (49%) — Of those who chose Ontario as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Quebec (57 per cent), followed by those living in Saskatchewan (49 per cent), Manitoba (48 per cent), British Columbia (44 per cent), Atlantic Canada (43 per cent), and Alberta (41 per cent).
• Saskatchewan (38%) — Of those who chose Saskatchewan as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Manitoba (51 per cent) followed by those living in Alberta (48 per cent), Ontario (41 per cent), Quebec (34 per cent), Atlantic Canada (34 per cent), and British Columbia (28 per cent).
• Manitoba (38%) — Of those who chose Manitoba as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Saskatchewan (44 per cent), followed by those living in Ontario (43 per cent), Québec (39 per cent), Atlantic Canada (31 per cent), Alberta (30 per cent), and British Columbia (30 per cent).
• Quebec (24%) — Of those who chose Quebec as a place where they would feel comfortable living, they were most likely to come from Ontario (29 per cent), followed by those living in British Columbia (22 per cent), Saskatchewan (21 per cent), Manitoba (20 per cent), Alberta (17 per cent), and Atlantic Canada (16 per cent).
