Poll shows majority of Americans support Gina Carano; Bill Burr adds his support
After being sacked from The Mandalorian for a controversial Instagram post, Gina Carano still maintains the support of a majority of Americans after a recent poll conducted by the Daily Wire.
First, some context. #FireGinaCarano began trending on Twitter shortly after Carano shared a post comparing political hatred towards Jews with that shown by the media towards Republicans.
Lucasfilm announced the following statement soon after: "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," the statement from Lucasfilm reads. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
According to some sources, Disney had been looking to fire Carano for months; this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Soon after, Gina Carano signed onto a movie deal with Daily Wire. The poll covering cancel culture was also conducted by the Daily Wire (which has a conservative slant), and respondents stated the following:
72%, after being shown the social media post that got Caranao fired, said the firing was unjustified. 28% agreed.
39% said the post may have been poorly worded.
34% found nothing wrong with the quote.
61% of those with a "less favorable" opinion of Disney point to "cancel culture" actions the company has taken.
65% feel companies like Disney have taken political correctness too far, including 47% of Democrats.
Bill Burr, a comedian and one of Carano's co-stars on the show, also came to her defense on his podcast. “She was an absolute sweetheart. Super nice f*cking person. And you know, whatever, somehow someone will take this video and f*cking make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure!", referring to how Hasbro also canceled Carano’s Cara Dune action figure. “I’m on that f*cking show. Now, I gotta watch what the f*ck I say,” Burr concluded.
