Opposition Calls On Liberal Government To Aid Northern BC Farmers In Crisis

FORT ST. JOHN – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, is calling on Liberal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Marie-Claude Bibeau to do more to support Northern BC farmers.

“This year our farmers and producers have been facing drought and near-drought conditions which have been made worse by the 2021 heat dome,” said Mr. Zimmer. “The extreme temperatures and lack of rain continues to have a negative impact on the quality and quantity of crops throughout Northeastern BC. Our vital agriculture sector needs support now.”

Mr. Zimmer has sent an urgent letter to Minister Bibeau urging her to do more to help our region’s farmers, including expanding the 2021 Livestock Tax Deferral to include the entire Peace River Regional District and the Northern Rockies.

“The Liberals must do more to ensure our farmers and producers have the support and resources they need to get through this challenging year. They are the backbone of our country, and they need our help now. The time for talk is over.”
