OPINION: End All Covid Mandates!

After months of pressure, the Liberal government announced that as of June 20, it will suspend vaccination requirements for domestic and outbound travel, federally regulated transportation sectors, and federal government employees.

Passengers will still be required to wear face masks and current border measures, including quarantine and testing requirements for Canadians who have not received their primary vaccine series, and the use of the ArriveCAN app remain in effect.

“I have consistently called for lifting federal vaccine mandates and restrictions,” said Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen. “The Prime Minister has used the pandemic and vindictive vaccine mandates to stigmatize and divide Canadians.”

“I am glad that the Liberals are ‘suspending’ vaccine measures for domestic and outbound travel, federally regulated transportation sectors, and federal government employees. However, this is just a beginning and I want the government to return to pre-Covid standards.

“If – as the government claims – these were meant to be temporary measures, the Liberals should be ending the mandates, not suspending them. I raised this point directly with the government this week in the House of Commons.

“I am also very disappointed that the Liberals have continued passenger mask mandates, testing and quarantine for inbound Canadians who are not vaccinated, and the ArriveCan app.

“I am calling for the end to all of these unnecessary and harmful burdens on Canadians.

“To protect the rights of Canadians in the future, this week I also seconded the Medical Freedom Act tabled by my colleague MP Dean Allison. This bill will prevent Canadians from discrimination based on personal medical choices.”
