Ontario doctor accused of spreading misinformation to face sanction

Dr. Patrick Phillips, a physician based in Englehart, in northeastern Ontario, will face interim restrictions after issuing exemptions for COVID-19 vaccines, masking requirements and testing as he faces a disciplinary hearing before the province’s medical regulator.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario alleged Tuesday that between August 2020 and this month, Phillips engaged in disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct in his communications regarding the pandemic, including on social media. They added that Phillips had also issued misleading or incorrect statements about the COVID-19 vaccine and public health measures.

It concluded by stating that Phillips is “incompetent in relation to his communications” regarding the pandemic.

Phillips took to Twitter to address the decision: “Never have I been more proud of myself than the day I decided to take a stand against our country’s medical tyranny,” he wrote Tuesday morning. “Providing patients and the public access to treatments for COVID-19 and vaccine injuries and protecting them from medical coercion is not something I will regret.”

This is not the first such incident. The college had previously cautioned a pediatrics specialist in Brampton, Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill, in February over to “lack of professionalism and failure to exercise caution in her posts on social media, which is irresponsible behaviour for a member of the profession and presents a possible risk to public health.”

Patrick previously appeared on TBT's webshow back in April.
