MP Viersen: No Truck Tax

Late last month, Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault released the Liberal government's plan to reduce emissions to meet their 2030. Buried in Annex 3 on page 192 – is the Net-Zero Advisory Body recommendations, including a tax on new trucks.

“The Liberals have never met a tax they didn’t like. Based on their own report, a new tax on trucks and SUVs would cost an extra $1,000 on a Ford F-150, and $4,000 on a Ram 3500,” said Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen.

“Hardworking folks across our riding rely on trucks to get to work and do their jobs. From farmers, loggers, oil workers, and union workers, they all rely on trucks to transport their tools, get them to jobsites and haul their goods.

As Canadians are struggling with a cost-of-living crisis, the last thing they need is another tax to make life even more expensive.

“I am opposed to any new taxes – especially one that makes it more difficult to put food on the table for Canadian families.

“Conservatives will continue to fight every tax hike the NDP-Liberal government puts forth.”
