Leafs fans melt down; burn jerseys after falling to Canadiens

Despite having had a home-ice advantage and better betting odds, the Maple Leafs lost to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 last Monday, 3-1.

With the Canadiens now playing the Winnipeg Jets in Round 2, Leafs fans are scratching their heads and asking what went wrong. Many fans took the news pretty hard and went to social media to air their grievances, including politicians.

After having lost a bet to Quebec Premier Francois Legault, Ontario Premier Doug Ford sulkily wore a Canadiens jersey on camera, admitting defeat. "This is killing me," Ford said.

One fan took it a step further and burned his jersey in his backyard. "You're a horrible team. You've broken my heart," said the ex-fan.

The Leafs have now lost seven straight post-season series, and dropped eight straight contests where it could have eliminated an opponent.

Fans attribute the loss to Captain John Tavares, who was out for the remainder of the series with a knee injury and concussion sustained in Game 1. Muzzin, one of Toronto's key defensemen, also took a lower-body injury in Game 6 and was ruled out for a minimum three weeks.
