Iran initiates show of force, produces material utilized in nuclear weaponry

According to a report from the The Wall Street Journal, Iran may be capable of building a key component of nuclear weaponry.

In wake of Joe Biden's inauguration, Iran has committed to a show of force, firing cruise missiles over the Gulf of Oman yesterday. Tensions have been high between the US and Washington since President Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal.

Although Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Kazem Gharib Abadi, has stated that the development of uranium metal "would allow the development of a new fuel for the Tehran civilian research reactor," the country is toeing the line between nuclear fuel for energy use and nuclear weaponry. Iran continues to deny that this is the case.

The report indicates that it will take up to five months to install the new equipment and to create the uranium powder required for make uranium metal. Tehran announced that it had begun enriching weapons-grade uranium back on January 4th.

It is unclear whether Biden will rejoin the nuclear deal that was first initiated under Obama.
