Conservatives demand answers for Liberal political interference with the RCMP

On Tuesday, the Halifax Examiner reported allegations made by RCMP Chief Superintendent Darren Campbell that the Liberal government pressured the Commissioner of the RCMP to release specific details about the firearms used in the killings to advance their political agenda for pending gun control legislation.

RCMP Chief Superintendent Darren Campbell testified that a “promise” had been made by the RCMP Commissioner Lucki to former Minister of Public Safety and the Prime Minister’s Office that the RCMP would release this information and was “tied to pending gun control legislation.”

These are serious and shocking allegations that deserve answers,” said Peace River Westlock MP Arnold Viersen. “The separation of political institutions from our law enforcement is crucial.”

“The use of the mass murder of 22 of Nova Scotians and an unborn child as a Liberal gun control wedge is disgusting, obscene and an insult to the victims and their families.

“Conservatives want an immediate investigation in to the matter and have requested an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU).

“Canadians need to hear from the Prime Minister, the former Public Safety Minister and the members of the RCMP who were involved.

“I am calling for a full, open, and transparent investigation to get to the bottom of this.”
