Boutilier: Canadians are in love with authoritarianism
Are you watching this Canada? Are you happy with what’s going on?
Who knew it—Canadians are in love with authoritarianism.
What's happening right before our eyes is complete insanity. It’s been done slowly, carefully and intentionally. And it isn’t stopping anytime soon.
All political parties right now are complicit in what is going on, with people on the right and left both cheering on what’s happening.
I remember last March, life seemed pretty good. Stable, everyone was happy. Then COVID happened, and we were told it would take 2 weeks to flatten the curve.
2 damn weeks.
2 weeks of isolation, working from home, complying with government requests for everyone to do their part. Small businesses and citizens alike joined together and did what they felt had to be done. Social distancing was implemented and many other measures which barely anyone had any problem with. It was no big deal at the time.
Then it was extended further and further. Month by month the lockdowns went on. Our government overlords deprived us of physical activity, recreational activities, gatherings with family and friends and left us with nothing to turn to except drugs, alcohol and fast food. They were complicit in destroying the mental health of hundreds of thousands of Canadians and their families.
The government orchestrated and sponsored destruction of small business and the economy, ruining the lives of hundreds of thousands of Canadian families. And remember: all levels of government have supported this. Families are starving, businesses are collapsing, livelihoods are demolished and the government has intentionally done every single bit of this.
Simultaneously, they launched an Order In Council, stripping gun rights away from lawful, licensed Canadian gun owners while ignoring the violent criminals and guns smugglers. Their intent , of course, being to eventually disarm Canadians.
Gradually, popular opinion became that if you wanted to rescue your dying business, the product of your life’s work and everything you own, you were selfish and you didn’t care about the death of the vulnerable. You were a monster.
You want to see family? Monster.
Disagree with the government? Monster.
Want to be able to exercise and maintain your health? Monster.
Simply want your constitutional rights not to be violated? Don’t want undue hardship for your family? Don’t think it’s right for a young man to be arrested for “illegally” playing hockey? You are a monster.
On top of that, there’s the debt. The crushing amount of debt, federally and provincially. Federal debt will have doubled from where it was in 2015, between 2016 and the end of 2021, making harder working tax slaves of every one of us. In 150 years Canada had accumulated $612 billion in debt, between 2016 and the end of 2021 it will have risen by another $600 billion. Economically we are ruined, and don’t even get me started on provincial debt.
Then came Christmas, you were forbidden from seeing anyone during Christmas, family members, friends, the government took a stand and said “No, you are not allowed to have people in your home—no gatherings allowed.”. Think about that for a moment: the government determined who you could or could not have in your home. Nobody batted an eye.
Then the politicians voted down a proposition to increase sentencing for people who commit crimes with smuggled firearms. The government voted in favour of spending billions of dollars to disarm Canadians, to strip them of their legally obtained and responsibly used firearms and against a deterrent to reduce criminal activity. If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about their intentions behind the gun ban, I don’t know what will.
Rumor's of government isolation facilities came about, but Trudeau himself denied anything nefarious was happening. Trudeau assured us that it was all in our heads, and it was just an effort to scare Canadians. But then Thursday, January 28th it happened. Nikki Mathis upon returning from Dallas was forcefully detained and isolated in a government run facility.
Now I don’t care the reason. Fact is, she didn’t do anything criminal, but she was still stuffed in a white van and detained with little to no explanation and was threatened with arrest if she didn't comply. No matter how you slice it, it’s absolutely wrong and unconstitutional.
The worst part of it all is I see Canadians cheering in favour of all of the things I just mentioned. I see them with their pitchforks out every day ready to skewer their fellow citizens. Labelling people as “Grandma” killers for selfishly wanting to maintain a livelihood and not starve.
Canadians are cheering on the destruction of our constitutional rights. They are arguing for less rights under the constitution, one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen and what most people who have fled communist regimes would warn us against.
The slow, slithering, deadly snake of authoritarianism has been creeping into our lives over the last year, and if you think for even a minute we will get any of our rights back you’re wrong. The government never gives back what it takes away.
