Boil Water Advisory Issued for 100 Homes in Fort McKay

Fort McKay residents are being told to boil their water and prepare for water shortages after a Sunday morning leak in the water distribution system was detected. The advisory is for both the First Nation and Métis Nation.

A municipal statement says the leak is preventing water pressure forming for 100 homes along the east side of Fort McKay Road. Pressure was restored by 8 p.m., but the water still needed to be boiled. In the meantime, Fort McKay First Nation is providing potable water to the community from its band office.

“Prior to the Boil Water Advisory being lifted, the repair must be completed, flushing of the distribution system must take place, and water testing and sampling must be satisfactory for Alberta Health Services and Indigenous Services Canada,” said a municipal statement.
