59 Year Old ticketed $6,900 for Breaking Quarantine

The woman in question had entered Canada earlier in the day. PHAC (Public Health Agency of Canada) had released information that she had not “provided an adequate negative COVID-19 test.” She was then asked to quarantine for the allotted amount of time.

It seems that she decided instead to take a walk and visit a patient at the Lions gate hospital later in the day. This visit prompted a call from PHAC to The West Vancouver Police department at 10:25pm on March 4, 2021. They caught the woman as she was just returning home from her venture.

Upon questioning her, the woman informed police that she was “exempt from the required quarantine.” Unfortunately she did not have any documentation to prove her innocence.

This resulted in two fines. One for PHAC allegations that she had ignored proper quarantine procedure, and the other for breaking quarantine as found by the police. Each fine hummed to the tune of $3,450 equalling a grand total of $6,900.

“This is a stark reminder,” says Constable Kevin Goodmurphy, spokesperson for WVPD, “That we all have a responsibility to slow the spread fo COVID-19… There are strict guidelines that specify how a person must quarantine upon entry to Canada, which includes a requirement to travel directly to their address of quarantine and to remain there for 14 days.”

It seems that our leading lady is not the only one going against these mandated health measures. B.C.’s Ministry of Public Safety made an announcement in the beginning of February informing the public that over half a million dollars worth of fines had been issued within the last 6 months.
